Super short bio:

The Bucket Band is a group of veteran musicians based in Independence, MO, playing the great songs from the 1960s and early 70s - the "Golden Age of AM Radio." Expect to hear songs that you remember and love (if you ever owned an AM radio), and not the same old songs that every other band is currently playing.

Short bio:

The Bucket Band is a group of veteran musicians based in Independence, MO, playing the great songs from the 1960s and early 70s - the "Golden Age of AM Radio." The members grew up in small towns around Kansas City, sometimes playing together in various groups over the years. "This is the first time we've come together in this line-up," according to Tim Coulter, keyboardist and guitarist. "I've played in a couple of bands with Cliff, including a Beatles tribute band. Cliff played Paul, and I played Billy Preston & George Martin - the behind-the-scenes guy playing whatever was needed." So what's different about this band? "We had all just grown tired of playing the same old songs that everybody else is doing, and decided it was time to play some songs that nobody's done before." Cliff Payne, bassist, says he's excited about doing all these "never done before" songs. Bruce Johnson, from Liverpool...er, Grandview, lays down the beat, as well as singing a few songs. While most drummers are heard but hardly seen, Bruce takes the spotlight, impressing the crowd with his drumming and his humor. Lead guitarist Bill Bishop has also spent time in some tribute bands, from Boston to Bad Company to the Doors - as the lead vocalist and guitarist. So The Bucket Band is able to cover just about anything!

In addition to the regular cover bands these musicians have been in, Payne and Coulter played together in a Beatles tribute band in the early 80s. Later, Payne did an Elvis tribute show, leading the KY Elvis Parade for 12 years. "We do a couple of later-period Elvis songs, and several Beatles songs, but there's a lot of variety. From the Monkees, the Byrds, Temptations, Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond...really all the music that we loved growing up." Bishop had fronted several tribute bands, including some '70s groups, but was anxious to have some fun playing the music he loved from the '60s. And the audiences seem to love them, too. "People come up after we play and tell us how great it was to hear a band playing these songs. It's just 'feel good' music'."
